SILF

AN ATTEMPT TO RESTORE DIGNITY

The S-ILF livelihood program aims to initiate, strengthen, and scale up livelihood activities through financial, technical, and capacity-building support to ensure the quality of life for people living in Leprosy colonies. S-ILF actively facilitates beneficiaries to make informed decisions. The support continues at all stages of project development, ranging from awareness generation and mobilisation, business orientation, feasibility study and market survey. The aim is to build capacity and ensure the sustainability of the enterprise.

OUR APPROACH

At S-ILF, rather than offering handouts, we believe in building pathways to sustainable income. Our Livelihood Program focuses on supporting individuals and families affected by leprosy to become self-employed through micro-enterprises, tailored to their environment, skill level, and ambition.

Each project begins with understanding the community’s needs and identifying feasible, culturally acceptable income-generating activities (IGAs). These may include goat-rearing, dairy, poultry, tailoring, petty trade, and small-scale farming.

Through a step-by-step model, we ensure each beneficiary is equipped to succeed:

  • Selection of IGAs with technical support.
  • Training in financial literacy and business planning.
  • Provision of seed capital.
  • Regular follow-up and mentoring.

Why This Works

Our model is not one-size-fits-all. It’s:

  • Community-led
  • Gender-sensitive
  • Culturally relevant
  • Sustainable by design

These aren’t just businesses; they are proof that dignity and livelihood go hand in hand.
