SILF

SOLVING PROBLEMS, SERVING NEEDS

People living in Leprosy colonies are disproportionately at risk during humanitarian crisis. Due to low socio-economic resilience and limited access to essential services and infrastructure, their ability to manage and respond to emergencies, such as the impacts of the Covid pandemic is significantly reduced.

In response, the Humanitarian Aid wing at S-ILF was formally established in 2020 as a dedicated unit to address such challenges. It emerged during the Covid pandemic to support residents of Leprosy colonies by addressing urgent needs and helping them cope with the crisis. Based on need assessments, relief programs were initiated in key areas such as healthcare, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), natural calamities, and other emergency situations.

In 2024-25, S-ILF continued its humanitarian aid efforts, reaching out to residents of Leprosy colonies across various states. These interventions have played a vital role in ensuring the well-being and safety of affected communities, especially during times of crisis.

OUR APPROACH

Humanitarian Aid at S-ILF meets urgent needs while strengthening long-term resilience in leprosy colonies. We deliver ration kits and emergency supplies during crises, repair and build essential WASH infrastructure, and restore safety after floods and storms.

Apart from our health support system, we construct toilets, water systems, and protective works that improve dignity and hygiene. All interventions are planned with APAL leaders, local authorities, and clinicians to ensure sustainability.
